Cambodia Gambling Halls

by Ella on Dec.27, 2019, under Casino

There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are based in a relatively tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent destination, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling hall, features 150 slots and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are 150 slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the common tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel complex that features many conveniences aside from the gambling den, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 tables.
