There is a captivating history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall betting is banned. Eight gambling halls are based in a relatively small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime destination, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; although, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are apparently required to cross, there are methods around this, as is accurate of most borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel building that highlights a number of luxuries on top of the casino, which provides ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 tables.
